About
Sherry Hamel was appointed by the Biden Administration to serve as the State Executive Director of the USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA) in Maine in December 2021.
Hamel began her federal career with the Department of Justice in 1991 prior to transferring to USDA in 1992. Hamel has over 29 years of service with FSA. During her tenure with FSA, she has held a range of positions including Legal Assistant, Farm Loan Specialist, and Executive Officer.
Most recently, Hamel served as Acting State Executive Director for FSA in Maine. Throughout her career with USDA, Hamel worked collaboratively with the Maine Congressional Delegation, Maine Department of Agriculture, Maine Organic Farmers and Growers Association, Maine Farmer Resource Network, and local commodity groups to assist in the development and implementation of resources and programs that support state’s agricultural community.
Hamel is a graduate of the University of Maine where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree.
Hamel was born and raised in a small, coastal town in eastern Maine where she spent many summers helping her family with the wild blueberry harvest. She is an outdoor enthusiast and enjoys the vast mountains, lakes, and beautiful coastline of Maine. Hamel currently resides with her family in Dedham.
