About
Heidi Secord was appointed by the Biden Administration to serve as the State Executive Director of the USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA) in Pennsylvania in January 2022.
Secord has over 26 years of farming and regenerative agriculture experience. She currently owns and operates a diversified vegetable operation with a Community Supported Agriculture membership and farmer-led local food hub at the Josie Porter Farm in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania. The farm is within the boundary of the Cherry Valley National Wildlife Refuge and respects the natural diversity of flora and fauna in this unique valley with its farming practices.
She has been actively engaged in agricultural education and policy committee work serving on the Pasa Sustainable Agriculture Board, the Pennsylvania State Council of Farm Organizations, and All Together Now Pennsylvania. She is also an Oxfam “Sister on the Planet,” a group of women who support and lead the fight against climate change.
Secord is a member and past President of Pennsylvania Farmers Union and served on the National Farmers Union Board of Directors. She is also a member of Pennsylvania Farm Bureau, served on the Monroe County Conservation District Board, and was appointed as a farmer member on the Pennsylvania State Conservation Commission by Governor Tom Wolf.
Secord earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Rhode Island and served as a Peace Corps volunteer for three years in Mali and Lesotho concentrating on subsistence agriculture projects and women’s cooperative programs. She appreciates African music and food and still speaks the native languages of the countries where she served. She is an avid traveler and enjoys cooking homegrown meals with her husband Gary, a landscape architect and farmer.
