About
Dennis McKinney was appointed by the Biden Administration to serve as the State Executive Director of the USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA) in Kansas in February 2022.
McKinney is a Kansas farmer and cattle producer in southern Kiowa and northern Comanche counties. He served as a Kiowa County Commissioner from 1989 to 1992 before being appointed to the Kansas House of Representatives, where he served until 2009. For six of those years, he held the leadership position of House Minority Leader. In 2009, McKinney was appointed as the 38th State Treasurer of Kansas.
McKinney was elected to the board of the Kiowa County Memorial Hospital in 2017. He previously served on the Kiowa County Extension Council and the Kansas Development Finance Authority.
McKinney earned both a bachelor’s and master’s degree from Wichita State University.
McKinney and his wife Jean live in Greensburg where Jean works as a paraeducator at Kiowa County High School. Both of their daughters’ families are engaged in agriculture in Kansas. McKinney’s favorite activity is spending time with his six grandchildren.
