Daniel Smiarowski was appointed by the Biden Administration to serve as the State Executive Director of the USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA) in Massachusetts in January 2022.

Prior to his appointment, Smiarowski served as the FSA District Director in Massachusetts and was previously a Farm Loan Specialist. During his 35-year career, he has worked with a diverse cross-section of agricultural producers in Massachusetts.

Smiarowski grew up on the family’s 175-acre dairy and vegetable farm in Sunderland. At the age of 15, Smiarowski started raising fi ve acres of pickling cucumbers. Over the years, he has grown potatoes, pumpkins, and tobacco, but his passion has always been asparagus. Smiarowski is one of the larger asparagus producers in the state.

Smiarowski is a proud alumnus of the Stockbridge School of Agriculture where he earned an associate degree in fruit and vegetable crops in 1986 and the University of Massachusetts where he earned a Bachelor of Science in agricultural economics in 1988. Smiarowski served as the Stockbridge Alumni President in the early 1990s.

Smiarowski is a recipient of the FSA Administrator’s Award for Supervisor of the Year and the Federal Executive Association of Western Massachusetts’s Distinguished Supervisor Award.

He is a member of the Massachusetts Agricultural Club, which was founded in 1840 and is one of the oldest agricultural clubs in the country.

Smiarowski resides in Sunderland with his wife Penny. He has a son, daughter, and a French Bulldog named Frank. His hobbies include skiing and playing golf.
