The Graze-Out program is available to producers who elect to use their acreage planted to wheat, barley, oats, or triticale for grazing by livestock and agree to forgo any other harvesting of the commodity on such acreage during the applicable crop year.
Eligible commodities include:
- Barley
- Oats
- Wheat
- Tricale
Eligible applicants include producers of designated commodities who meet conservation and wetland protection requirements and provide sufficient documentation of their commodities. Producers must comply with all program requirements to qualify for a loan.
Applications must be submitted by the final loan availability date for the commodity.
To apply for a Graze-Out payment, producers must complete and submit a loan application to their local FSA office. The application process includes providing documentation of the eligible commodity, production records, and proof of compliance with program requirements. Detailed enrollment instructions and deadlines are available through the local FSA office.
Graze-out payments are payments made to eligible producers who, although eligible to obtain a loan:
- Elect to use acreage planted with barley, oats, triticale, or wheat for livestock grazing
- Produce wheat, oats, barley, and triticale that must have been planted, certified, and would have been harvested if the commodity went to a grain stage
- Agree to forgo any other harvesting of the commodity on this acreage during the applicable crop year
In lieu of receiving an LDP, a producer may receive a Graze-out payment when the announced repayment rate for an eligible commodity is lower than the loan rate.
