Environmental Impact Statements and Environmental Assessments

Environmental Impact Statements (EIS) and Environmental Assessments (EA) are documents required for public projects using federal funds. They exist to ensure that decision makers consider the effects a project might have on natural and cultural resources. They are required by the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA). Periods for public comment are available on all EIS and EA reports.
