USDA Announces Availability of Low-Interest Physical Loss Loans for Producers Affected by Natural Disasters

Physical loss loans through the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Farm Service Agency (FSA) can help producers repair or replace damaged or destroyed physical property essential to the success of the agricultural operation, including livestock losses. Examples of property commonly affected include essential farm buildings, fixtures to real estate, equipment, livestock, perennial crops, fruit and nut bearing trees, and harvested or stored crops and hay.

Impacted Area: Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia

Triggering Disaster: Excessive rain and flooding from Hurricane Helene that occurred Sept. 27, 2024, and continuing

Application Deadline: June 3, 2025

Primary Counties Eligible:

North Carolina: Alleghany, Ashe, Avery, Buncombe, Burke, Caldwell, Cleveland, Haywood, Henderson, Jackson, McDowell, Macon, Madison, Mitchell, Polk, Rutherford, Swain, Transylvania, Watauga, Wilkes and Yancey

Contiguous Counties Also Eligible:

North Carolina: Alexander, Catawba, Cherokee, Clay, Gaston, Graham, Iredell, Lincoln, Surry and Yadkin

Georgia: Rabun

South Carolina: Cherokee, Greenville, Oconee, Pickens, Spartanburg and York

Tennessee: Blount, Carter, Cocke, Greene, Johnson, Sevier and Unicoi

Virginia: Grayson
