USDA Designates Six South Dakota Counties as Contiguous Natural Disaster Areas

Primary Disaster Areas Located in North Dakota

This Secretarial natural disaster designation allows the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Farm Service Agency (FSA) to extend much-needed emergency credit to producers recovering from natural disasters through emergency loans. Emergency loans can be used to meet various recovery needs including the replacement of essential items such as equipment or livestock, reorganization of a farming operation, or to refinance certain debts. FSA will review the loans based on the extent of losses, security available, and repayment ability.

Impacted Area: North Dakota

Triggering Disaster: Excessive Rain that occurred during April 1, 2022, through June 30, 2022.

Application Deadline:  Nov. 6, 2023

Primary Counties Eligible:   Barnes, Bottineau, Grant, LaMoure, Logan, Nelson, Ramsey, Sioux, Towner and Walsh

Contiguous Counties Also Eligible:

North Dakota: Adams, Benson, Cass, Cavalier, Dickey, Eddy, Emmons, Grand Forks, Griggs, Hettinger, Kidder, McHenry, McIntosh, Morton, Pembina, Pierce, Ransom, Renville, Rolette, Stark, Steele, and Stutsman

Minnesota:  Marshall

South Dakota:  Corson

Triggering Disaster 2: Excessing Rain and Flooding that occurred during April 1, 2022, through June 30, 2022

Application Deadline:  Nov. 6, 2023

Primary Counties Eligible: Benson, Burke, Cavalier, Divide, Eddy, Foster, Grand Forks, Griggs, McIntosh, Pembina, Ransom, Renville, Sargent, Steele, and Traill

Contiguous Counties Also Eligible:

North Dakota: Barnes, Bottineau, Cass, Dickey, Emmons, LaMoure, Logan, McHenry, Mountrail, Nelson, Pierce, Ramsey, Richland, Stutsman, Towner, Walsh, Ward, Wells, and Williams

Minnesota: Kittson, Marshall, Norman, and Polk

Montana: Sheridan

South Dakota: Brown, Campbell, McPherson, Marshall, and Roberts
