USDA Designates Three Texas Counties as Primary Natural Disaster Areas Due to Excessive Rain, Flash Flooding, Hail, High Winds, Lightning, and Excessive Heat

This Secretarial natural disaster designation allows the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Farm Service Agency (FSA) to extend much-needed emergency credit to producers recovering from natural disasters through emergency loans. Emergency loans can be used to meet various recovery needs including the replacement of essential items such as equipment or livestock, reorganization of a farming operation, or to refinance certain debts. FSA will review the loans based on the extent of losses, security available, and repayment ability.

Impacted Area: Texas

Triggering Disaster: Excessive Rain, Flash Flooding, Hail, High Winds, and Lightning occurring on May 25, 2023

Application Deadline: December 24, 2024

Primary Counties Eligible: Lamb

Contiguous Counties Also Eligible: Bailey, Castro, Cochran, Hale, Hockley, Lubbock, and Parmer

Triggering Disaster 2: Excessive Heat occurring from June 1, 2023, through September 30, 2023

Application Deadline: December 24, 2024

Primary Counties Eligible: Kleberg and Nueces

Contiguous Counties Also Eligible: Aransas, Brooks, Jim Wells, Kenedy, and San Patricio
