USDA Designates Two Tennessee Counties as Contiguous Natural Disaster Areas with Assistance Available

This Secretarial natural disaster designation allows the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Farm Service Agency (FSA) to extend much-needed emergency credit to producers recovering from natural disasters through emergency loans. Emergency loans can be used to meet various recovery needs including the replacement of essential items such as equipment or livestock, reorganization of a farming operation, or to refinance certain debts. FSA will review the loans based on the extent of losses, security available, and repayment ability.  

Impacted Area: Missouri, Arkansas, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee

Triggering Disaster: Excessive rainfall and high winds as a result of Hurricane Helene that occurred on Sept. 28 through Sept. 29, 2024.

Application Deadline: Aug. 11, 2025 

Primary Counties Eligible:  

  • Missouri: Bollinger, Butler, Cape Girardeau, Dunklin, Mississippi, New Madrid, Pemiscot, Ripley, Scott, Stoddard

Contiguous Counties Also Eligible: 

  • Tennessee: Dyer, Lake
  • Arkansas: Clay, Craighead, Greene, Mississippi, Randolph
  • Illinois: Alexander, Union
  • Kentucky: Ballard, Carlisle, Fulton, Hickman
  • Missouri: Carter, Madison, Oregon, Perry, Wayne
